Club Affiliation

We have extensive resources and support for affiliated clubs, we share best practices, provide access to research, promote our clubs and regularly ask for feedback. 

Affiliated Clubs are allocated a Club Support Officer (CSO) in their state to build relationships with key members  and to tailor support to each club. Here are some of the ways we can help:

The Benefits


Members and officials of an affiliated club are provided with personal accident insurance cover while participating in club sanctioned events and activities.

Affiliated clubs contribute through their fees to AS so that we can provide a suite of programs and support designed to benefit all clubs, their members and the whole sailing community in Australia.

AS maintains a regulatory framework with the Racing Rules of Sailing, AS prescriptions, Appeals and Special Regulations.  This also includes supporting and training a network of volunteer Race Officials and Equipment Auditors.

Members of an affiliated club are protected by the National Integrity Framework, a suite of policies covering member protection, child safeguarding and other integrity issues.

Membership of an affiliated club allows club members to participate in sanctioned events at other clubs nationally and internationally under a consistent framework

Access to the national membership platform revSport that includes membership, event, finance, website and volunteer management tools that relieve your club of administration.   

Access to learn to sail programs under the Discover Sailing banner and participation programs to increase active club membership and promote the sustainability of sailing. This includes an opportunity for purchase of  Tackers boats through the Whitworths Scheme.

Access to instructor, coach and officials training.

Affiliated Clubs have the full support of Australian Sailing when applying for Grants via being a referee or providing a letter of support.

How to Apply


To begin an application for affiliation, you will need:

  • Certificate of Incorporation
  • Legal Document for your organisational type eg Copy of the Club Constitution
  • Insurance Documents
  • Image of your Burgee (JPEG format and no larger than 1mb)
  • Information about your club including Committee member details, what faciities you have, current learn to sail programs,  number of members, your racing program and type of boats, website and social media sites.
  • Complete the Online Application form

Affiliation Process


The Affiliation process can take up to three months from the date of application. The General Manager of your state will keep you informed throughout the whole process.

  • One you have completed the online application your request will be sent to the State Member Yachting Association or Regional Advisory Committee for approval.
  • Once approved your banding fee will be allocated based the process outlined in "Affiliation Fees Explained".
  • The Club Support Officer will be allocated
  • Your RevSport Portal will be activated with details from your application
  • A confirmation letter will be sent to your club with an invoice for payment.
