2021/22 Ratings

IRC Certificate Applications

IRC: system of handicapping sailboats and yachts for the purpose of racing.

Managed by: RORC (UK) and UNCL (France).

Rule: the IRC rule is not published, meaning the only bodies capable of calculating an IRC rating are the RORC Rating Office and UNCL Centre de Calcul in Paris.This prevents designers from attempting to design 'to the rule'.

Type of certificate: ENDORSED

Rating Year (Australia): 1 June - 31 May

ORCi Certificate Applications

ORCi: uses the International Measurement System (IMS) as a measurement platform.

Managed by: ORC (Offshore Racing Congress).

Rule: ORC uses the Velocity Prediction Program (VPP) to rate boats of different characteristics (like size, hull and appendages shape, configuration, stability, rig, sails, propeller installation and many other) affecting their theoretical speed.

Type of certificate: ENDORSED

Rating Year (Australia): 1 July - 31 June

Certificate Validity:  1 year

Stability validity:  From issue unless changes are made to the hull and/or rig

 

 

 

ORCc Certificate Applications

ORC Club: uses the International Measurement System as a measurement platform.

Managed by: ORC (Offshore Racing Congress).

Rule: ORC club uses the same Velocity Prediction Program (VPP) of ORCi to rate boats of different characteristics. Data are self declared by the owner.

Type of certificate: SELF DECLARED

Rating Year: 1 July - 31 June

Certificate Validity: 1 year
