Ask us anything about IRC ratings

Published Tue 05 Sep 2023

IRC is a rating rule to handicap different designs of keelboats allowing them to race together. Unlike a performance handicap, an IRC rating is not altered between races because of your results, it only changes when the boat's measurements change.

Boat owners and interested crew are invited to join Australian Sailing in a webinar to speak about IRC ratings with Jason Smithwick and Jenny Howells from the Royal Ocean Racing Club.

Topics covered will include:

  • Goals and aims of IRC as a rating system
  • Any myths about IRC
  • Commonly encountered boat owner opportunities or problems under IRC
  • Why have a technical committee at major events
  • Interesting IRC topics that have come up globally
  • The future direction of IRC

The call will be on Microsoft Teams at 5:30PM on 5 October 2023. Boat owners and crew wanting to participate are invited to register here.
