SailLAB is Australia’s first STEM based program for Australian primary and secondary schools based around the sport of sailing.
This program is made BY teachers FOR teachers and offers FREE online resources and a practical day (sailing experience) for schools involved.

SailLAB currently has programs for:
- PRIMARY:
- Year 5 and 6 students.
- SECONDARY:
- Year 7, 8, 9 (some Year 10 classes can use the material but we intend to make Year 10, 11 & 12 specific content in the coming year
We provide you with:
- A program that shows an outline of the content and resources and the STEM links to SCSA (and ACARA). These programs are available for whatever year level you are teaching.
- PRIMARY:
- 6 modules that each contain:
- PowerPoint
- Worksheets
- Teacher notes
- Answer keys
- 6 modules that each contain:
- SECONDARY:
- 10 modules that each contain (+ 10 more will be available shortly!):
- PowerPoint with teacher notes
- Workbook
- Answer Keys
- End of module assessments
- 10 modules that each contain (+ 10 more will be available shortly!):
- Support from one of our teachers to assist with any content that is difficult to grasp
This program is an in-class STEM program designed to be taught in a STEM/Science classroom at your school. There is a one-off sailing experience that your school may choose to undertake, however all qualified sailing staff are provided for you that day.
- PRIMARY:
- Primary classroom teachers and/or primary science teachers are best suited to teach this program. If you are thinking of encorporating this into another area of your school, please discuss with our curriculum development lead, Jess Lundh, so we can best support you with this.
- SECONDARY:
- Science teachers are best suited to teach this program. If you are thinking of encorporating this into another subject area at your school, please discuss with our curriculum development lead, Jess Lundh, so we can best support you with this.
We have ensured that all the concepts taught are science, technology, engineering and math related, just with a sailing spin to them! We have designed the resources to be very user friendly, as they have been designed by primary and secondary teachers and have undergone it’s first round of feedback from these teachers to ensure that it works best for these environments.
The online resources themselves are FREE. We simply need to know your details to ensure we can maintain our metrics (for our funding purposes). You will be granted access to these resources once we have these details.
The out of pocket costs for the school include:
- Any additional science lab tech equipment you may need for the experiments
- A school set of Remote Control Yachts are encouraged to be purchased to assist with in-class activities and understanding. To purchase these yachts at an educational discount, click here.
- Sailing experience day - costs approximately $30-$35/student (depending on the yacht club).
- If your school is financially unable to support these costs, there may be radio-yachts available for loan through your local sailing club or regional state office. Please contact Jess Lundh.
The beauty of these programs is that you can adjust it to however fits your school’s timetabling. Below are some ways that schools are currently using these modules:
PRIMARY:
- Some schools have commenced these once a week for a semester.
- Some schools combine multiple classes together and complete these as a ‘class focus’ for a few weeks
- Some schools pick and choose the modules that work for them and deliver these modules only.
SECONDARY:
- Some schools have 4 lessons/week for the entire year
- Some schools have 4 lessons/week for a semester
- Some schools are completing these once a week for the year
- Some schools are using these for the last couple weeks of each term for the year

Yes! As an optional part of this program, you may wish to organise a sailing experience day at your local sailing club. Click here for more information on this program.
