Becoming a SSS Instructor

Becoming a Safety and Sea Survival Instructor

Safety and Sea Survival course participants range from novice to highly experienced, and any SSS instructor must be able to respond to questions at all levels.  The Instructor course is an intensive 2-day course involving theory and practical training with ongoing assessment.  During the final day of the course you will be expected to deliver a section of the syllabus which may include a pool session.

Prerequisites

  • Experienced Offshore Sailing Instructor
  • Current HLTAID003.011 - Provide First Aid Certificate or higher
  • Current SSS Certificate
  • Marine Radio Operators Certificate of Proficiency (MROCP), or equivalent
  • Extensive experience of ocean sailing and heavy weather
  • Passion for safety at sea
