Instructor Reaccreditation Process

Reaccreditation of Qualifications

Assistant Instructors

Australian Sailing Assistant Instructors are only eligible to assist an Australian Sailing qualified Instructor to deliver the Australian Sailing Dinghy or Windsurfing Programs at an Australian Sailing Discover Sailing Centre.

Assistant Instructors do not require reaccreditation, and remain an Assistant Instructor until they qualify as an Instructor.

Instructors

Being an accredited Australian Sailing Instructor is a requirement for an Instructor to deliver Courses under the Australian Sailing Programs at accredited Discover Sailing Centres.

All Instructor qualifications are valid for five years and Instructors are required to pay an annual Instructor fee to Australian Sailing.

To reaccredit the qualification and maintain currency the Instructor shall meet the following requirements:

  • Hold a current First Aid Certificate
  • Pay their annual Instructor fee to Australian Sailing
  • Comply with the State/Territory legislation including, but not only, state boat licence and child protection laws (if applicable in that state).
  • Read and sign an Instructors Code of Behaviour
  • Have been an active Instructor over the five years (based on courses recorded in myCentre reporting)
  • Be medically and physically able to perform the duties expected of an Australian Sailing Instructor
  • Be assessed by an Australian Sailing appointed Senior Instructor during a stand alone assessment or the assessment day of an instructor course in their specific qualification.
    • If you are unable to be assessed by a Senior Instructor at a course or standalone assessment, video evidence of conducting a session signed off by an Accredited Centre Principal may be accepted for reaccreditation. Please contact a Club Services Officer if you believe this is your only course of action.
  • It is also highly recommended that Instructors attend the Annual Regional Instructors Conferences.

The reaccreditation is free of charge.

If the Instructor is unable to meet any of the above requirements they should contact their local Club Services Officer.

To complete the above process please find a reaccreditation 'course' or contact your Club Services Officer.

Senior Instructors

The role of the Senior Instructor is to facilitate Instructor (and Assistant Instructor) courses and to assess the skills and knowledge of potential and existing Instructors.

All Senior Instructors are grouped into three year appointed cycles.

To be reappointed and maintain currency, the Senior Instructor shall meet the following requirements:

  • Maintain lower-level Instructor currency as above
  • Be supported by their Australian Sailing Club Services Officer (or Regional Manager).
  • Attend at least one Instructor Conference over the three year period.
  • Have conducted a minimum of one Instructor Course per year over the three year period.

If they are unable to meet any of the above requirements they should contact the Education and Training Manager at Australian Sailing.

Lapsed Currency

Unfinancial Instructors:

Instructors who have not paid their annual renewal fee shall have no public liability or professional indemnity insurance cover and may not be engaged/employed by an Australian Sailing Discover Sailing Centre to deliver any of the Australian Sailing Programs.

No evidence of currency:

The Instructor qualification will remain expired on the database until the Instructor provides evidence to meet currency requirements. If currency has lapsed for more than a two year period then the Instructor should apply to Australian Sailing for reaccreditation, but will be expected to complete an Instructor Course again.
