Amendments to the Special Regulations
Published Thu 02 Jul 2026
Australian Sailing has introduced three new amendments to the Special Regulations.
The amendments relate to keel inspections, storm and heavy weather sails, the carrying of personal AIS beacons and are now available on the website.
The keel inspection amendment introduces non-destructive testing requirements for welded metal keels.
The storm and heavy weather sails amendment brings the Australian Sailing Special Regulations in line with the World Sailing Offshore Special Regulations. This amendment was bought in to ensure that storm jibs are designed and used for their designated safety purpose and not as racing performance sails in standard racing configurations.
The personal AIS amendment introduces a requirement for crew in Cat 1, 2 & 3N races to carry, or have attached to them when on deck, an AIS personal overboard beacon.
The updated Special Regulations, amendments are available from the Australian Sailing Safety Hub.
