CBH Trial Certificates
Published Thu 30 Oct 2025
In response to several requests by owners, the CBH Rule has been modified to allow trial certificates to be issued for the purposes of testing changes in boat configuration. For example, changing the mainsail to a square top or installing a taller mast.
The owner of a yacht holding a currently valid “One of a kind” CBH Rating can now apply for up to 3 trials per calendar year. Each trial will cost $65 per certificate, note; these certificates will not be valid for racing. The measurements supplied do not require certification by a measurer, this will allow “what if” tests of different configurations.
If the trial certificate is seen as good option an amended certificate application will need to be submitted. The new measurements will then need to be confirmed by an Australian Sailing measurer. The Rating office will issue a new certificate within 15 working days of the application being received.
More information on the CBH Rating System can be found here.
