Heavy Items

Published Mon 04 Nov 2019

Heavy and movable items that pose a risk to injury must be secured. What a ‘heavy” item is, as stated in the Special Regulations, might include batteries, stoves, gas bottles, tool boxes anchors and chains.

However, consideration may be given to other items that may cause injury or damage to the boat if not securely fasten. These could be floorboards, items from the navigation station, loose batteries, handheld radios, mobile phones, laptop, kettles, torches etc.

Food items from cupboards e.g. tin cans, bottles, cutlery/pots and pans etc. can all fly around if cupboards and drawers are not securely shut.

Suggested ways to secure fasten items are clips or latches on the navigation station’s table, tie downs or ropes through saddles when securing anchor, latches on cutlery drawers and fiddles on stoves.
