On the rules with Amelia Catt

Published Sat 04 Nov 2023

Amelia Catt has raced in well-known Australian dinghy classes, starting in the Flying 11 and Sabot working her way through a career high world ranking of #1. Also a highly accredited coach practicing all of Australia, Amelia shares her key tips on the rules.

  1. “Read the sailing instructions to see how many circles you need to do in a regatta!” Amelia has seen people get caught out by only doing one penalty turn when the sailing instructions have changed it to two. “Don’t be that silly person who assumes.”
  2. Amelia’s second piece of advice is “to make sure that your safety equipment is up to standard. Sailors can be and do get penalties by the measurement team of a regatta if their safety equipment does not meet the standard. Ensuring that your equipment is up to standard not only keeps you out of trouble from a rules perspective but also keeps you and others safe on the racecourse.”
