Workplace Health & Safety

Workplace Health & Safety for clubs

On 1 January 2012 New South Wales, the ACT, Queensland, NT and the Commonwealth harmonised their Work Health and Safety (WHS) laws. This means that persons conducting a business or undertaking (organisations including clubs) and workers, volunteers, in these jurisdictions are protected by same WHS laws.

Safe Work Australia has updated its website with information that will help you to understand the rights and obligations that your organisation owes its volunteers under WHS law. Club officials are strongly encouraged to read this information.

A Podcast, PowerPoint presentation and a Factsheet to help organisations that engage volunteers is available from the resources section of this website. These resources can be provided to those volunteers engaged by our club to help them understand the work health and safety laws.
